Mission Statement

Wilkes Barre Racing inc. (WBR) is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation that organizes, promotes and conducts athletic activities for the purpose of raising money and awareness for child foster care and adoption. WBR activities are conducted primarily in northeastern Pennsylvania. Organizations receiving donations from WBR may include, but is not limited to, organizations such as the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, the Children's Service Center of Wyoming Valley, Bethany Christian Services, local foster and adoptive families etc.


Our Purpose

Increase the number of children adopted in NEPA by using athletic events to raise money and awareness.

Create new and engaging athletic events that bring the best athletes and most well balanced individuals to our cause.


Our Athletic Accomplishments

The Ego Challenge:Circuit Course Fitness Competition in Kirby Park (fall).
The Wilkes Barre Fitness Challenge: Crossfit-style athletic competition (spring).
The Giants Despair Challenge: Run and bike competitions climbing 600 feet in one mile.
The Wendy's Wonderful Kids Half Marathon and 10K Run: annual Labor Day weekend event throughout downtown Wilkes-Barre.
The Valleys Fastest Man: three one mile runs (dirt, mountain and street) to crown the fastest runners in NEPA.
Wendy's Pocono Xterra Trail Running Series: five trail runs through our beautiful parks. Qualifying races for the National and World Trail Running Championships. This year athletes came from Florida and Georgia to compete.
The Glenn Summit Spring Water Harvey's Lake Run: We brought back this popular 8.2 mile run around Harvey's Lake in April. Over 200 runners this year.
Harrold's Pharmacy Walk for Home: Labor Day weekend walk to raise awareness about adoption.


Our Impact on Foster Care and Adoption

Over $8,000 in awards and gifts given to NEPA foster and adoption organizations in 2010. Dozens of new foster families recruited at our races. Sponsorship of the Times Shamrock Newspapers Child of the Week feature. Frequent appearances promoting foster care and adoption in major media outlets throughout NEPA including special features in local magazines and newspapers.


Our Goal for 2011

$20,000 in awards and gifts. 2,000 athlete participants from across the nation competing in at least 15 events 50 new adoptions and foster families.
